School Council Visit to Lincolnshire County Council Chambers
On Monday 20the October members from the school council visited Lincolnshire County Council Chambers in Lincoln.
Democratic support manager, Nigel West told the children all about the role of councillors and the County Council in general and then Deputy Councillor Barry Singleton spoke about his role. The children then had the chance to ask questions to both Councillor Singleton and Councillor Chris Underwood-Frost.
The children also conducted their own debate about school uniform in the council chamber. The debate was very interesting and as with real debates in council chambers some members changed the side they were supporting as the debate went on! The children were given a DVD copy of their debate which they will watch at their next meeting back at school.
Following the debate and talks, school council members had lunch with the Councillors and met Impy the Lincolnshire County Council mascot.
All the children had a wonderful visit and learnt a great deal from the experience.
Visit from Mr Leyland, District Councillor
On Tuesday Mr Leyland, our District Councillor came to talk to us. He spoke to the council about his role and the council he works for. Mr Leyland explained the issues he has to deal with and the types of decisions he helps to make and how they affect the area where we live and go to school.
Members from our school Council asked Mr Leyland about planning permission, green energy and recycling.
It was really interesting to hear about our local council and the similarities and differences between their role and ours.
Thank you to Mr Leyland for coming to talk to us.
Red Nose Day - Comic Relief
On Friday 13 March 2009 the School Council organised a 'Wear Something Funny Day' and a talent show. The day was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all. We raised a magnificent £263.40 that will help children in Africa to receive a better education.
