WB 18.01.21

Hello 2AB!

I hope that you are happy and healthy and the work is going well. I have really enjoyed reading your English and am very impressed with the quality of your work. Well done!

In maths this week we are going to continue looking at a different topics related to multiplication. The week starts with multiples (think: in the times table of) which you are all very good at. We then move on to factors which is slightly harder and involves you thinking of the different numbers that divide exactly into another number eg 1,8,2 and 4 are all factors of 8. Then you have the pleasure? of prime numbers. There is no shortcut with these; you need to ask yourself the same questions each time. These are detailed below and involve you working out if the number is a multiple of 2 (apart from 2 which is prime), a multiple of 3 (apart from 3 which is prime), a multiple of 5 (apart from 5 which is prime) or a multiple of 7 (apart from 7 which is prime). If you answer yes to a question, then it is not a prime number. Remember to consider each number carefully and do not rush. Towards the end of the week, we look at factors that are prime numbers and problem solving. I have put scans from the Y4 and Y5 textbooks along with the answers. In addition, I have uploaded the Click and Safe booklets so that you can complete one set of questions from each booklet each week.

In English, we are going to complete our writing on discussion texts and then look at some more grammar work.  PSHE looks at discrimination and science looks at how a magnet works. Guided reading continues to look at Bill's new frock and finally there is more Spanish work on the family and RE work on the baptism of Christ.

Sending work in

I would be grateful if you could mark the maths using the answer booklet and if a parent or guardian could let me know in an email how the maths has gone for the week. The work in English can be completed on a work document or handwritten work can be scanned and then sent to me, if possible each day. I am teaching in the morning and will be able to look at it in the afternoon. Finally, there are some spellings for you to learn. As I am in school each day, there may be a delay in getting back to you, but please do send in your questions using the class email.

Start your day in a mindful way...

This week, a Healthy Minds Practitioner talks you through the square breathing technique which can help to reduce the physical feelings of stress and worry.

We have a page dedicated to Emotional, Social and Mental Wellbeing on our school website. Click the image above to explore the resources. This week, we would like you to watch the short video, introduced by the Duchess of Cambridge.

Multiples

For multiples think: 'in the times table of.' So, the first few multiples of three are 3, 6, 9 etc. Look carefully at the strategies detailed at the top of the sheets. Pick an appropriate level and starting point and work through the questions. Mark and make your corrections.

RE

The baptism of Christ. In this lesson you will be comparing two different images of the baptism of Christ. Look carefully at the presentation and follow the instructions.

Factors

Factors are a little more tricky. A factor is a whole number that divides exactly into another number. The factors of 8 are 1, 8, 2 and 4. When we list factors, we always start with 1 and the number itself. Then build up the factors in pairs. When we multiply these factor pairs together, they give us the number eg 2 x 4 in the example gives us 8. Look carefully at the strategies detailed at the top of the sheets. Pick an appropriate level and starting point and work through the questions. Mark and make your corrections.

English

Complete the rest of the discussion text, including the conclusion.

Spanish

Spanish

Please follow the instructions on the presentation. Write out the Spanish vocabulary with the English translation for slides 7 & 8. Use the phonics to practise your pronunciation.

Maths

Prime numbers

As is often heard on Dad's army (that is one for your parents): DON'T PANIC. Take prime numbers slowly and carefully and for each number, ask yourself the same questions.

A) Is the number an even number (ends 0, 2, 4, 6, 8) ? If the answer is yes, the number is not prime, unless it is the number 2 which is a prime number.

B) Is the number a multiple of 3 (add the digits of the number together and see if that gives you a number you recognise from the 3x table) ? For example 132 is a multiple of 3 as 1+3+2=6

The only multiple of three that is a prime number is 3 itself.

C) Is the number a multiple of 5 (ends in a 5 or a 0) ? If the answer is yes, the number is not prime, unless it is the number 5 which is a prime number.

D) Is the number in the 7x table? No trick here, you just need to work it out. The only number in the 7x table that s a prime number is 7 itself.

This should help you identify the prime numbers up to 100. Good luck!

Pick an appropriate level and starting point and work through the questions. Mark and make your corrections.
