Hello 2AB!
I hope that you are happy and healthy and that you had a great half-term break!
In maths this week we are going to continue with decimals, fractions and percentages. We will start by looking at fractions of number before looking at counting in fractions. This can be tricky as children often miss that 3/3 is 1 or 6/3 is 2 etc. There is a pattern though, so if we were counting in thirds it would be 1/3, 2/3, 1, 1 1/3, 1 2/3, 2. The rest of the week looks at percentage and then money. I have uploaded the Click and Safe booklets so that you can complete one set of questions from each booklet each week.
In English, we are going to look at another Literacy Shed video which tells the story of Sherman, an unsuccessful inventor who dreams of building a flying machine. He receives help from some unlikely friends. The focus of your writing is on dialogue and description. When writing the dialogue, it is very important that each line of speech is quite long, containing several sentences. Imagine that you are one of the aliens and choose an informal style that really gets your character across. Perhaps ‘act’ it out with someone at home. Grammar this week revises the punctuation of speech and guided reading continues to look at Bill's new frock. Geography looks at different types of industry, art takes inspiration from Alberto Giacometti to produce more a sculpture and science investigates light and where it comes from.
Sending work in
I would be grateful if you could mark the maths using the answer booklet and if a parent or guardian could let us know in an email how the maths has gone for the week. The work in English can be completed on a work document or handwritten work can be scanned and then sent to school, if possible, each day. Finally, there are some spellings for you to learn.

English Writing dialogue
Re-watch the video from 1 minute 50 seconds to 3 minutes.
We will be focussing on the part of the video from 1 minute 50 seconds to 2 minutes 30 seconds. (Where the aliens are talking). The rest of the video up to 3 minutes gives you background information about the aliens. Pay careful attention to the expressions and hand gestures made be the aliens and also think about the picture of Sherman. The aliens are clearly talking about him but what are they saying. Why are they going to do? (this is linked to Sherman). TASK – To write the dialogue between the aliens.
You should be aiming to write about one side of lined A4 paper. We will proof read and edit the dialogue on Wednesday.

Art - Sculpture This week we are going to create a sculpture. Please look at the Powerpoint on Giacometti. This tells you about him and shows some examples of his work. Then follow the instructions on the word document. You will need some tin foil.
