Covid-19 related absence:

Year 1 learners - If you are currently isolating at home, and are feeling well enough, please use the activities on this page to continue your learning - it is closely aligned to the work you would be completing in the classroom.

1. Watch the video below (from YouTube) to remind yourself of the story.

2. This week you are going to write a postcard, pretending to be Sunny, to his family from somewhere else he has visited. Today, you need to think about where you are going to write your postcard from and what you are going to write about. Perhaps Sunny visits somewhere in the UK? What might he tell his family about if he visited Woodhall Spa?

Write down your ideas - you might even draw a picture to help when you are describing the place.

 

Science:

We have spent the last two terms learning about animals, including humans, in our Science sessions and now know a lot of information.

 

Today I would like you to think about everything you have learnt and make a poster to show this. Try to include diagrams and some writing to show your understanding.

Continuing with your postcard writing. Today, you need to write out your ideas for your postcard. You will be writing it up later on this week, so you just need to get your ideas down in draft form. Remember that you are pretending to be Sunny so you need to use I when you write. Try to include where you are and what it is like there.

Geography:

Looking closely at the continent of Africa. 

Use the BBC link to explore the continent Africa - there are a number of videos with plenty of information for you to discover.

 

Afterwards, choose one of the famous African landmarks you have found out about and make an information page about it.

Wednesday

Editing your writing. Look back over yesterday's sentences. Check that you have used a capital letter at the start of each sentence. Have you used a full stop at the end of each sentence? Have you remembered to include finger spaces between each word? Make any necessary changes to your writing. You might also like to check your spelling choices. Tomorrow you will be writing your postcard up neatly. 

 

 

PE:

Remember, it is important to keep active, especially as you are having to stay at home at the moment.

Today's job is to write up your postcard in your neatest handwriting. There is a template you could use below (or you could use a smaller piece of card and write on one side and draw a picture of your chosen destination on the other. I would love to see a photograph of your completed postcard.

Creative:

If you are able, why not pop into your garden and collect a range of natural things to make a piece of Christmas-themed art. I have popped a couple of examples below for some inspiration. You could take a photograph and send it to our class email address.

1. Spelling test - as it is Friday, please ask an adult at home to test you on this week's spellings - hopefully you have practised each day. Afterwards, ask an adult to email your scores to our class email address.

 

Handwriting focus:

1. Warm up your muscles with this fun BBC Supermovers Song.

2. Complete the handwriting sheet- remember to refer to the letter formation guide.

Wellbeing:

Taking a moment to be quiet and calm is important to keep our minds healthy. Colouring in a pattern, perhaps whilst listening to some calming music, is a good way of taking a 'brain break'. I have attached some Christmas-themed colouring pages you might like to use.
