Our School Ambassadors felt very privileged to represent the school when they laid a beautiful posy of flowers at the Royal Square, Woodhall Spa in memory of Queen Elizabeth II.  The flowers were laid during the national period of mourning for the Queen.  The children had each prepared a few words which they were able to write in the Book of Condolence at the Parish Council Offices on behalf of the school.  Thank you to the children who took part and who looked extremely smart for the occasion.

This month we were very pleased to welcome Vijay Sudra to our school to talk to the children during Collective Worship about his work as an independent video editor.  Amongst other companies, Vijay has worked for the BBC, editing programmes and providing immediate replay footage for live sports events.  He talked all about his work as part of the school’s ‘I’m Possible’ project and linked this to one of the British Values – individual liberty.  The aim of these visits is to let our children know that if they have something they would like to achieve, and if they work hard and persevere, they will reach their goal.  Vijay talked about how, through working hard, he is now pursuing a job and career he loves and he spent time answering some of the interesting questions our children had for him. As part of the same project, the children’s next visitor is a marine biologist, which they are also really looking forward to.

A regular visitor to our school is Father Joseph, who joins us for Collective Worship every Monday morning.  In September, we held a special Collective Worship for Harvest Festival which the children really enjoyed and where Father Joseph talked about and celebrated the food we all enjoy.  The generous donations of food offered by the children were donated to the Woodhall Spa and Kirby on Bain Food Bank who provide much needed support for the local community.

In our Reception class, they have also been talking about Harvest and were delighted to welcome Farmer Tim from Bomber County Produce in Dogdyke to the school.  He very kindly brought along his huge tractor for the children to see and talked all about the crops it helped to produce and harvest.  The children were able to look at and feel 3 different seeds: wheat, barley and rape seeds and they talked about how they were used to produce the foods we see in our supermarkets.  Farmer Tim also brought leeks, carrots and sugar beet and asked the children to try to match photographs of the special farming machinery to the correct crop.  It was very tricky and the children listened carefully and asked lots of interesting questions.  A big thank you to Farmer Tim for coming to visit us and taking time out of his busy schedule.

If you are interested in your child attending our Nursery or School, we would be delighted to welcome you to St Andrew’s and show you round our school and grounds - please do not hesitate to contact the school office to arrange a visit.  Please note that Lincolnshire County Council primary school admissions for September 2023 open on 14 November 2022.  St Andrew’s Nursery places are available throughout the year, dependant on sessions available.  The nursery offers free 30hrs per week places for eligible families, as well as 15hrs per week funded sessions.
