Allergies in School
Pupil Allergies in School
Please be aware that we have children in school with severe allergies to nuts and raisins. Any exposure to nuts or raisins through contact or ingestion could result in the children experiencing anaphylaxis, which is a sudden, severe allergic reaction that requires immediate medical treatment and is potentially fatal.
Owing to the seriousness of this allergy, we talk to all children in school regularly about the importance of not sharing food with others. Whilst we don’t ban food products containing nuts or raisins, children are closely monitored during playtimes and lunchtimes and encouraged to wash their hands prior to returning to classrooms.
We would however appreciate it if you do not give your child a pot or box of raisins or nuts as a snack or as part of their lunch. These tend to spill either on the table, floor or playground.
We would ask for your support in discussing with your child the seriousness of not exchanging food with others to avoid potential food contamination.
Furthermore, we would be very grateful if you could purchase a sun cream for your child which does not include almond oil, shea butter or cocoglycerides (coconut extract) as this can also cause our nut allergy pupils to have an allergic reaction. Please find below a photograph of the brand of suncream which usually causes the most issues.
Our goal is to make school a safe place for all our children. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Many thanks
